Importance of cooking and eating at home
THE TASK
Imagine that you are doing a project “Importance of cooking and eating at home” together with your friend. You have found some illustrations and want to share the news. Leave a voice message to your friend. In 2,5 minutes be ready to tell the friend about the photos:
- Give a brief description of the photos, justifying the choice of the photos for the project
- Say in what way the pictures are different, justifying the choice of the photos for the project
- Mention the advantages and disadvantages (1-2) of two types of eating
- Express your opinion on the subject of the project – whether you would like to cook and eat at home more and why
You will speak not more than 3 minutes (12-15 sentences total). You have to talk continuously.
THE ANSWER
Hi, … I hope that you haven’t forgotten about the project we are going to do together. You know, I have found a couple of great pictures for it.
In the first picture we can see a woman with her daughter; they are making an apple pie together. They must be at home as there is kitchen furniture in the background. In the second one there is a group of people sitting at the table and eating a takeaway from their lunch boxes. At the same time they are discussing the job issues as some people are holding documents and pens. They definitely are in an office or other public place. I think that both of these photos properly illustrate the topic of our project. The first one shows the traditional way of cooking and eating with a family at home, while the second one presents the modern way of living which is almost impossible without ordering ready-made food. Both pictures together provoke reflection and arguments about our topic.
These two pictures have a couple of differences. Firstly, they underline two different ways of getting dishes: made at home and bought in a cafe. Secondly, the presence or absence at the time is a significant difference too. I mean that people in the second photo are working and probably don’t even notice what is in their lunch boxes.
I suppose in the project we have to mention the advantages and disadvantages of two types of eating. It’s obvious that cooking and eating at home is cheaper and often healthier than eating anywhere else. On the other hand it takes a lot of time to cook. Eating out or ordering a takeaway is a symbol of modern life. People are too busy to cook so they pay more for having their food ready for them.
As for me I am not big fan of cooking. Probably, it’s important to be able to cook at home but I am not ready to give up ready-made food which cafes and supermarkets offer.
